Sun Shade is a variable solar-control glazing system with electrochromic chemicals between two conductive glass sheets. When a low voltage current (<5V DC) is applied, ions start to migrate. This ionic transfer causes a transformation from clear to tinted.
iGlass electrochromic technology works by controlling the ionic transfer between two conductive panes of glass via a low voltage electrical charge, which causes a transformation from clear to tinted.
Changing the voltage causes the tint to change from light to dark, enabling control over visible light transmission by up to 45%. Controlling the visible light transmission supports a significant reduction of the solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC).
The net effect on heating ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) size and energy requirements lowers consumption by up to 20%.
From its lightest state to darkest state, SHGC can vary from 40% to 12%, and Tv range from 10-55% making Sun Shade the ideal product for the Australian climate and northern/western/eastern exposed facades. This revolutionary technology is offered as either a double-glazed unit (DGU) or a triple-glazed unit (TGU), with custom shapes and sizes from 300 x 300mm to 1350 x 3300mm.
Smart Control For Sustainable Buildings
Each Sun Shade pane is connected to a control via low voltage electrical supply line (EC module). The modules can be combined into groups or individually controlled.
The EC master is programmed to automatically control the tint via a light sensor, a temperature sensor is integrated into a weather station mounted on the facade of the building.
As a computer-based control system, EC concept can be tailored to the individual requirements of the user.
Both tools feature a digital Modbus* interface for easy integration into an existing building management system. From skylights to glass facades every system can be controlled via a tablet or smartphone.

Sun Shade comes in five shades; level 1 is the lightest level and level 5 the darkest level. It is operated by two buttons located on the surface of the control element. By pressing the buttons (Dark ▼ (tinted), light ▲ (clear) the different dimming states can be selected in five stages.
The display has five blue LED's, which are located on the surface of the control. These are used to display the selected or reached blackout state. The current blackout state is indicated by permanently lit LED's.
The visible light transmission (Tv) of Sun Shade standard insulated glazing units (IGU) can vary between 10 and 55%. The SHGC can vary between 12 and 40% (according to DIN EN 410). The insulation coefficient (Ug) of a standard Sun Shade IGU is equivalent to that of standard insulated glazing, at 1.1 W/m2K.
